The government plans to open bids in October for the Casupá dam
National authorities, OSE and the Florida Intendancy advanced in planning the project. According to Subrayado, complementary measures for the area were also announced.
The mayor of Florida, Carlos Enciso, met with the Secretary of the Presidency, Alejandro Sánchez, and with the president of OSE, Pablo Ferreri, to address the construction of the Casupá dam in that department.
According to Subrayado, Sánchez said that in mid-October the government will open bids for the projects for the new dam and stated that the process is already underway. He also said that the environmental report will be ready before the end of the year, and that it will then be discussed with residents and at a public hearing.
On environmental objections, Sánchez said, according to Subrayado, that it is valid for there to be debate and caution, and stressed that the impact of the project will have to be mitigated. At the same time, he said the project will make it possible to ensure drinking water for the metropolitan area, as well as generate jobs and economic activity in the area.
Still according to Subrayado, the official added that work is being done with UTU to improve the local educational offering, promote training opportunities and favor the hiring of local labor.
For his part, Ferreri said the project should leave short-, medium- and long-term benefits for Casupá and other nearby towns, including Gaitán, Reboledo, Fray Marcos and Pueblo Bolívar. In that context, he mentioned a plan by the National Development Agency and a substantial improvement to the Casupá health clinic.
He also detailed measures such as paving the entire Route 40 between Casupá and Gaitán, the transfer of a plot for UTU de Casupá within the land that will be expropriated by OSE, educational progress with UTU in María Dolores, intervention by Mevir and expansion of sanitation, Subrayado reported.
Enciso said the meeting with national authorities made it possible to clear up doubts linked to environmental impact and new road alignments.
