Orsi Highlighted Security, Technology and Investment Meetings After His Trip to New York

Yamandú Orsi returned to Uruguay this Saturday after his trip to New York to take part in the United Nations General Assembly, where, in addition to his address to the forum, he held diplomatic, business and bilateral meetings, according to El País.
According to that outlet, one of the main items on the agenda was a summit with leaders and representatives from Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador and Argentina to promote the Santiago agreement, a platform aimed at improving operational coordination among South American security forces. Orsi said there is a shared diagnosis of the situation and stressed the need to raise the level of coordination among the countries.
According to El País, in contacts with Paraguay and Bolivia there also emerged the proposal, raised by those regional partners, to revisit the project for a deep-water port. The president said that possibility led him to think about how to build, over the long term, a corridor that begins in Bolivia and must have an outlet to the Río de la Plata, and he said the meeting left a concrete agenda that should show results in 15 days.
The agenda also included meetings with Google executives to discuss artificial intelligence and urban development. Asked about opposition criticism following his speech, particularly over the mention of Cuba, Orsi rejected having defended the Cuban regime. He said the only political system he referred to in positive terms was that of the United States, in the context of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
He also explained that he referred to global problems such as terrorism, wars, extreme inequality and economic blockades, and cited Cuba as an example of the latter, but without referring to the functioning of its government. He added that in his message he also spoke of the pain caused by tyrannies and said his remarks were focused on defending peace, freedom and human rights, rather than on a specific assessment of governments.
