Salvador Illa used his midterm conference to project a future Catalonia

Salvador Illa led a conference this Monday at the Museu Marítim with which he sought to set out an idea of Catalonia for the next decade and, at the same time, for the second half of the legislature ahead of the next elections.

According to La Vanguardia, the president of the Generalitat opted for a tone removed from immediate confrontation and left in the background the management problems that affected the last political year, including difficulties in public services, railway disruptions, education results and doctors’ protests.

The event brought together more than 800 guests in the Sala Gran. Illa entered alone, with the audience already seated, in an austere setting in which the senyera, the Spanish flag and the European flag appeared, according to the Spanish newspaper’s description. The speech was delivered entirely in Catalan.

The conference was preceded by a video with interventions from young students and workers, an idea that then ran through the entire presentation by the leader. In that context, Illa presented a vision of the future linked to projects such as the new Campus de Salut Clínic, the TramCamp, the fourth generation of the Sincrotró Alba and the strengthening of the Catalan language.
