The president of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, began his official schedule in New York this Monday with his participation in a dialogue on artificial intelligence, according to Caras y Caretas Uruguay.
According to that outlet, the president is scheduled to speak on Tuesday at the dinner organized by Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA). On Wednesday, meanwhile, he will hold a meeting with Google’s Global Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Karan Bhatia, and will also take part in a gathering called “Santiago Regional Commitment against International Organized Crime,” promoted by Urupabol, a space for integration and cooperation between Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia.
Thursday will be the main event of the trip, when Orsi addresses the plenary of the United Nations General Assembly. According to Caras y Caretas Uruguay, it will be his second participation in that forum since taking office, following his address in September 2025.
A meeting with the UN secretary-general, António Guterres, is scheduled for Friday. The Uruguayan outlet added that bilateral meetings could also take place during the stay, although the agenda was still being finalized.
Before the trip, Orsi had requested authorization from Parliament to remain in the United States between September 20 and 26, with the aim of attending the 81st session of the General Assembly. That authorization was added to another trip out of the country requested for September 17 to 19 for personal reasons.
