List 22 will take part on October 3 in the election of worker representatives on Codicen. According to El Telégrafo, the slate is led by teacher Limber Santos.

Virginia Barreto, a UTU and Secundaria teacher and member of the list, said that those who work every day in classrooms and educational centers must have direct influence on decisions. In that line, she stressed that a greater diversity of perspectives broadens the criteria for deciding on education, El Telégrafo reported.

According to that outlet, Barreto also said that in recent years workers lost spaces for participation and questioned the replacement of the former education councils with general directorates. She also highlighted Santos’s track record in multigrade schools and said his approach is aligned with UTU’s philosophy, with workshops as the core of training.

Barreto also called for continuity in education policies and criticized political parties for treating the area as a “spoils of war,” always according to El Telégrafo. At the same time, she raised the need to rebuild the link between educational centers and the community, with attention to mental health, and to update classroom practices toward active pedagogies.

The election will be mandatory for teachers included in the registry and will take place between 8 and 19. Barreto recommended checking in advance on the Corte Electoral website for the corresponding polling place, El Telégrafo reported.
