Montevideo’s City Hall Asked to Halt Review of Real Estate Project in Bañados de Carrasco

Montevideo’s City Hall decided to ask that the review of the real estate project planned for the Bañados de Carrasco area be suspended, El País reported. The decision was announced by Mayor Mario Bergara after a meeting with the Departmental Board of the Frente Amplio.
According to Bergara at a press conference, the city government will ask the Montevideo Departmental Board to put the study of the proposal submitted for that area on hold. He also said that the IMM will analyze the consequences of the decree from the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Housing.
According to El País, last week the Ministry of Environment ordered the inclusion of the Bañados de Carrasco on the list of protected wetlands, amid the debate over a housing project promoted by Argentine businessman Eduardo Costantini.
