Montevideo City Hall appoints Silvia Pérez to lead Sports after Signorelli's departure

Montevideo City Hall appointed Silvia Pérez as the new head of the Secretariat of Physical Education, Sports and Recreation, following the resignation of Marcelo Signorelli.
According to 970 Universal, Mayor Carolina Cosse announced on Friday the addition of the sports journalist and writer, who will serve as Executive Coordinator of that secretariat.
According to the city government’s resolution cited by 970 Universal, the appointment was deemed appropriate because of her training in sports management and journalism, her professional experience in the sports field and her training in activities related to that subject.
Signorelli left the post after the controversy over the donation of T-shirts and backpacks to the Frente Amplio for the fun run promoted by supporters of the Yes vote in the referendum against 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration, 970 Universal reported.
The outlet also noted that Pérez has more than 30 years of experience in the media, writes for the sports supplement Ovación of El País and was part of the panelist team on Estadio Uno, on Canal 5.
