Maldonado Municipality Suspends Planned Changes at Punta del Este Terminal for Now

Maldonado Municipality has put on hold the transport transformation project that contemplated interdepartmental buses ending their routes at the Maldonado terminal and not in Punta del Este, according to Caras y Caretas Uruguay.

According to the official statement cited by that outlet, the municipality said that “the conditions are not in place” to carry out that operational change in the next summer season.

The plan had envisioned passengers heading to Punta del Este completing the trip on minibuses, with the aim of avoiding the circulation of large vehicles to the resort terminal.

The departmental government added that the transport reform is not limited to terminal operations, but also includes the construction of bike lanes and spaces related to education and road safety.
