ANEP Put Virtual Learning in Teacher Training on Hold After a 48-Hour Strike

The National Administration of Public Education decided to put the move to virtual classes at teacher training institutes on hold, following the 48-hour strike called by education unions.
According to Subrayado, ANEP president Pablo Caggiani announced on Monday that the measure was taken to open a meeting with the union coordinating committee.
Caggiani said the decision was made to pause virtual learning because the situation was generating conflict with teachers. He also noted that the decision had been postponed over the past two weeks, despite previous dialogue efforts already having taken place.
According to Subrayado, the Coordinating Committee of Education Unions had decided on Sunday to call a strike for Monday and Tuesday at the Normal Schools, the Instituto de Profesores Artigas and other teacher training centers.
ANEP had previously ordered remote instruction because of occupations that have been going on for weeks at several institutes, including Magisterio. After the new union action, it opted to suspend that change and move forward with talks with the unions.
