Enrique Wagener presented a recycling proposal for Asunción in the middle of the municipal campaign

The candidate for councilor of the Colorado Party Enrique Wagener presented in Asunción a proposal centered on recycling and waste management, as part of the campaign for the municipal elections scheduled for October 4, La Nación Paraguay reported.
According to that outlet, the launch took place this Tuesday on the esplanade of the Municipality of Asunción, alongside recycling, environmental management and neighborhood commission leaders. There, the draft Municipal Ordinance No. 408/14 was also presented, which calls for permanent environmental education in schools, neighborhood groups and markets, in addition to an annual calendar of measurable competitions.
According to Wagener in the program “Así son las cosas,” cited by La Nación Paraguay, one of the main demands gathered during his tours of the neighborhoods is the garbage problem. In that context, he said he will seek to promote a municipal recycling policy to reduce the volume of waste sent for final disposal at the Cateura landfill.
The initiative, called “Asu recicla” and framed within the “Jugá limpio” campaign, foresees recycling competitions among capital city neighborhoods through agreements with the private sector, unions, neighborhood commissions and associations of recyclers. It also contemplates the installation of containers at green points and incentive mechanisms for residents to separate waste from their homes.
Still according to La Nación Paraguay, Wagener said there had already been previous experiences linked to this model in the San Francisco neighborhood, where he said it reached about 1,000 families. There, he said, containers were installed, 14 motorized tricycles were delivered and an association of recyclers with legal status and a Single Taxpayer Registry was formed.
The plan also includes waste compacting machines with a reward system and a permanent environmental education strategy with municipal support in schools, universities and businesses, according to what was published by La Nación Paraguay.
