Ramírez Lezcano and Guatemala’s foreign minister discussed the bilateral agenda in New York
The foreign ministers of Paraguay and Guatemala held a working meeting during the UN General Assembly. According to the Foreign Ministry, they also highlighted the upcoming reopening of the Guatemalan diplomatic mission in Asunción.
Paraguay’s foreign minister, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, met on Monday in New York with his Guatemalan counterpart, Carlos Ramiro Martínez, in the context of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to information released by the Foreign Ministry and published by La Nación Paraguay, during the meeting both officials discussed issues considered priorities for the bilateral agenda and reaffirmed their intention to continue strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
At the meeting, they also welcomed the upcoming reopening of Guatemala’s diplomatic mission in Asunción. Still according to the Foreign Ministry, the Guatemalan government decided to reestablish its formal representation in the Paraguayan capital.
The reopening of the embassy will make it possible to channel matters directly and provide consular assistance in Paraguay. The measure was formalized after the conclusion of the III Meeting of the Political Consultations Mechanism, a forum that, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, seeks to energize the common agenda and strengthen institutional ties.
In addition, an official visit by Guatemala’s president, Bernardo Arévalo, scheduled for December 2026, was announced, La Nación Paraguay reported.
