Security Council votes again to choose the next UN chief

The UN Security Council will hold a new vote this Friday in the process to determine Antonio Guterres’ successor at the helm of the organization. It will be the third informal round and will begin at 11.
So far, Rafael Grossi, Rebeca Grynspan and Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett are among the candidates with the strongest support. The list is completed by Michelle Bachelet, María Fernanda Espinosa, Ivonne A-Baki, Olara Otunnu and Macky Sall.

The next secretary-general will take office on January 1, 2027, for a five-year term. If elected, Grossi would be the first Argentine to hold that post, according to Todo Noticias.
