A delegation from the Dominican Republic visits Paraguay to review the Hambre Cero program

A delegation from the Sustainable School Feeding Network and the National Student Welfare Institute of the Dominican Republic began a visit to Paraguay on Thursday to learn about the implementation of Hambre Cero en las Escuelas, according to La Nación Paraguay.
According to that outlet, the mission will run through September 18 and aims to review different aspects of the Paraguayan model, including management and financing, menu planning, distribution logistics, public procurement of products from family farming, and coordination with school health policies.
La Nación Paraguay reported that the Minister of Social Development, Tadeo Rojas, received the delegation along with other authorities linked to the program. In that context, he highlighted the role of President Santiago Peña in the launch and consolidation of Hambre Cero.
During the sessions, the visitors will analyze management mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, and storage, distribution and control processes. One of the main focuses will be the public procurement system from family farming, which links food supplies for schools with local producers.
The agenda also includes visits to educational institutions and meetings with supplier farmers, as well as an exchange on school health experiences and coordination between the education and health sectors, with the aim of identifying practices that could be added to the Dominican school feeding program.
According to La Nación Paraguay, the mission has the support of FAO in the Dominican Republic, Brazil and Paraguay, as well as backing from the Government of Brazil through the National Fund for Educational Development. On the Paraguayan side, the National School Feeding Council, the Ministry of Social Development and other agencies linked to Hambre Cero are taking part.
