A Drone Attack Near Poland Hit Trains Used by Foreign Delegations in Ukraine

A Russian drone attack in Ukrainian territory near the border with Poland hit a railway line used by foreign delegations returning from Kyiv this Sunday and forced evacuations at the Jagodyn-Dorohusk crossing, according to France 24.
According to the Ukrainian railway operator cited by that outlet, one of the trains was attacked about two kilometers from the Polish border. The formation was carrying about 200 passengers and no injuries were reported. Nearby, about 800 meters from the border crossing, a drone caused a fire at a service station and in several trucks.
Estonia’s foreign minister, Margus Tsahkna, said on X that members of his team were stranded in the area and could not leave Ukraine because of the drone threat. “Russian attacks are becoming more intense and are getting closer and closer to NATO and the EU. Our response must intensify as well,” he said.
France 24 noted that, according to Der Spiegel, among those evacuated from a train that passed minutes before the one hit was Günter Sautter, foreign policy adviser to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. That outlet also said he was returning from talks with representatives of the United Kingdom, France and Italy together with the Ukrainian government on a possible resumption of peace contacts with Russia, and that on Saturday he had taken part in the Yalta European Strategy conference.
According to Daily Mail, on that same evacuated train were former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, as well as security advisers from the United Kingdom, France and Italy, German lawmakers, diplomats and academics.
Bildt wrote on X that the affected formation was not his, but the one that passed through the border crossing minutes later, and said it was evacuated when the drone approached. Johnson, also on X, described the episode as an attack on a Ukrainian locomotive stopped at the Polish border and said it was the kind of aggression Ukrainians suffer every day, even on civilian railways.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, said on X that the attacks near the border represent “Putin’s terror” striking directly at the gates of the European Union and NATO. Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who was visiting Kyiv, said at a press conference alongside Sybiha that the bombings a few hundred meters from the border also affect the security of Polish citizens.
