Soledad Núñez, candidate for mayor of Asunción for the opposition alliance, publicly called for a debate with Camilo Pérez, the Honor Colorado candidate, in the final stretch of the campaign for the municipal elections on October 4.

According to Última Hora, Núñez posted the challenge on social media and said Pérez was “not being given permission” to debate. She also urged him to “show his face” and questioned whether there is fear or a lack of ability to take part in a public discussion.

According to that outlet, no debate space has been opened between the candidates so far, unlike in other election cycles. Última Hora also said the government-aligned position would be to avoid Pérez’s exposure, amid his attempt to distance himself from the administration of Óscar Nenecho Rodríguez.

In recent days, Núñez also clashed on social media with Nenecho Rodríguez. According to Última Hora, the former housing minister responded to the mayor’s criticism and drew distinctions with the current municipal management model, which she linked first to the former mayor and later to Luis Bello.

In that exchange, she also mentioned the destination of G. 500,000 million, referring to criticism of municipal management and the commune’s absence in the neighborhoods.

On the other hand, Última Hora reported that Arnoldo Wiens, the Colorado Añetete presidential hopeful, appeared alongside Camilo Pérez at a meeting with leaders in Sectional No. 39, in a gesture that reinforces the rapprochement between the abdismo and the team promoting the Colorado candidate’s bid in Asunción.
