Senator proposes surveying Indigenous lands and reviewing an expropriation in Mariscal Estigarribia

Senator Liseras said in an interview with RCC Radio that, after taking over the presidency of a commission linked to Indigenous peoples, he aims to organize the situation of Indigenous lands through an accurate cadastre and progress in the titling processes.
As he explained to the outlet, he considers that task essential to guarantee the rights of communities, including access to land, health care and dignified living conditions. In that context, he said that there are now measurement tools that would make it possible to determine more clearly which lands belong to each community.
Regarding the expropriation project for some 37,000 hectares in Mariscal Estigarribia for the Nivaclé community, Liseras told RCC Radio that the case must be reviewed because, he said, it has inconsistencies from its origin. He also mentioned a previous expropriation of around 28,000 hectares during the government of Alfredo Stroessner and warned that there are currently registered titles and developments on part of those lands.
In that context, he indicated that the origin of those titles must be analyzed and verified to determine whether they were legally acquired. He also said they plan to go to the site to make a decision with knowledge of the situation and within the legal framework.

In the same interview, the senator also warned about the growth of illegal gambling and said it poses a risk to minors. According to him, he will seek to promote regulatory and operational changes to confront those practices together with the competent institutions.
