Paraguay Seeks to Link AI Investments to Local Development and State Modernization
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce said the arrival of data centers and artificial intelligence technologies should translate into national capabilities, new businesses and improvements in public administration. The position was set out during the Taiwan Paraguay Technology Forum.
During the third edition of the Taiwan Paraguay Technology Forum, Paraguay’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, Marco Riquelme, said the challenge is for the arrival of data centers and artificial intelligence technologies to do more than attract investment, and also to boost local capabilities, entrepreneurship and greater state efficiency.
According to Paraguay’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the official set out that position on the Digital Government panel, where he argued that the country should move forward with a policy to attract investments linked to data centers and artificial intelligence, taking advantage of its energy strengths and directing those initiatives toward the development of the knowledge economy.
According to the official information, Riquelme said one of the key elements in designing public policies is to balance the arrival of capital with concrete benefits for the national productive ecosystem. In that context, he warned about the need to avoid turning those activities into extractive industries.
The ministry also said the official proposed that the installation of data processing centers make it possible to use available energy capacity to strengthen a knowledge industry, with the participation of local developers, entrepreneurs and investors.
In the same presentation, Riquelme highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence to transform public administration through process optimization, the digitalization of services and the reduction of bureaucracy. He also said those tools can improve the State’s internal processes and make administration more efficient.
The event was organized by the Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University together with the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Paraguay and, according to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, was attended by President Santiago Peña, Ambassador Iván Lee and national, academic and private-sector authorities.
