Orsi Will Travel to New York for the UN Assembly With a Schedule of Political and Business Meetings

Uruguay’s president, Yamandú Orsi, will travel to New York between September 20 and 26 to take part in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to La Diaria.
According to that outlet, on Thursday the 24th Orsi will deliver his second speech before the UN. The theme of the general debate will be “Restoring trust and driving transformation so that the United Nations delivers for all.” Asked this week about that message, the president said he has it “almost” finished and said it will include themes such as the peaceful resolution of disputes, multilateralism, and the defense of freedoms and democratic systems.
According to the Foreign Ministry and as reported by La Diaria, in addition to his participation in the Assembly, Orsi will hold meetings within the framework of Urupabol with Santiago Peña, of Paraguay, and Rodrigo Paz, of Bolivia.
The agenda also includes a meeting promoted by Chile’s president, José Antonio Kast, focused on organized crime. La Diaria recalled that in July, during a bilateral meeting in Montevideo, Kast and Orsi had discussed a possible accession by Uruguay to the Santiago Regional Commitment against transnational organized crime.
In addition, the Uruguayan president will meet with business leaders with investments in Uruguay and with business figures linked to the artificial intelligence sector, always according to La Diaria.
In parallel, Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin will take part in meetings with counterparts from Africa and Europe in his capacity as pro tempore president of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. He also has a meeting scheduled with India’s foreign minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, whom he already met days ago during the BRICS summit, according to that outlet.
During that same week, Uruguay will also hand over the pro tempore presidency of the Brasilia Consensus to Peru, La Diaria added.
