Lula remains ahead in Brazil, with Flávio Bolsonaro drawing ever closer, according to Datafolha

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva remains at the top of voting intention for Brazil’s October presidential election, although Flávio Bolsonaro has once again narrowed the gap, according to a Datafolha poll cited by El País Uruguay.
The survey places Lula at 39%, one point higher than in the previous poll, while the senator reaches 35% after gaining two points compared with the prior survey.
Behind the two leading candidates is Augusto Cury, of Avante, with 6%. Further back are Ronaldo Caiado, of the PSD, with 4%; Renan Santos, of Misión, with 3%; and Romeu Zema, of Novo, with 2%.
According to the same poll, in a potential runoff Lula would win 46% and Bolsonaro 44%. That result, like the overall poll, leaves both in a technical tie, since the margin of error is two percentage points.
Datafolha surveyed 2,002 voters between Tuesday and Thursday of this week. The study, El País Uruguay said based on EFE, was conducted amid the institutional crisis unfolding at the Supreme Court.
The poll was completed before it became known this Friday that Flávio Bolsonaro has been under investigation since July over the alleged illegal financing of Dark Horse, the biographical film about Jair Bolsonaro.
