The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Latorre, said that with the integration of the Bicameral Budget Committee, the study of the 2027 National General Budget bill was formally launched, according to Unicanal.
According to that outlet, Latorre said the focus of the debate should be on optimizing available resources, with cuts to unnecessary spending in order to allocate those funds to essential state services.
“This is a conversation that moves to parliament; the budget’s stage is treatment in the bicameral committee and then the known parliamentary process, and that is the challenge: reduce superfluous spending and use it for essential services,” he said.
In that context, he stressed that the health sector must occupy a priority place and referred to negotiations with the medical union to break the current deadlock, Unicanal reported.
Latorre said the discussion should center on a fair basic medical salary, from which supplements linked to seniority and professional training would be established. “I am convinced that we have to speak the same language and what is the key word or phrase? It is the basic medical salary, there has to be an agreement and from there, of course, generate the supplements based on merit,” he said.
