According to the official version cited by EL PAÍS, García had told Alberto Núñez Feijóo days earlier of his intention to move on to other responsibilities after this stage, and he will remain as spokesperson in the Navarre parliament.
According to that outlet, the resignation came as a surprise in Navarra, where during the summer García’s intention to run again ahead of the next regional elections had been noted.
EL PAÍS added that in recent weeks the possibility also circulated that Sergio Sayas, now a national deputy and formerly of Unión del Pueblo Navarro, could contest or assume the party’s regional leadership.
