Works begin at Colegio Nacional Dr. Roberto L. Petit in Ciudad del Este

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications and the Ministry of Education and Sciences have launched the first works at Colegio Nacional Dr. Roberto L. Petit, located in Ciudad del Este. According to MOPC Paraguay, the intervention will benefit around 480 students.
According to the ministry, the project is part of the Tejiendo Apoyos para la Excelencia Educativa (TAPE) program, which in Alto Paraná includes actions at 17 educational centers.
The project foresees improvements to the infrastructure of the school located at Km 8 Acaray, San Juan neighborhood, along with safety and accessibility upgrades in different areas. Maintenance and conservation tasks are also planned to improve conditions for school activities.
The school principal, Jorgelina Vázquez, expressed her expectation over the start of the work. According to MOPC Paraguay, she said the tour of the facilities reinforced expectations that students, teachers and the educational community will benefit.
Also according to the ministry, the TAPE program is a joint initiative between the MOPC and the MEC to improve learning environments and educational infrastructure in official schools and teacher training institutes across the country.
The plan aims to reach some 237,500 beneficiaries, including 157,500 direct ones —150,000 students and 7,500 attendees at teacher training institutes— and about 80,000 indirect ones, including teachers and administrators. It also includes 1,322 establishments, with 1,000 minor school interventions under the MEC; 300 Locales Escolares a Potenciar, 16 Centers for Support for Educational Inclusion and 6 Teacher Training Institutes, the latter under MOPC execution. The total planned investment is USD 125 million, with financing from the World Bank.
