The Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay will have to consider a draft resolution requesting that the Supreme Court of Justice definitively cancel the professional license of former senator Hernán David Rivas, according to Última Hora.
The proposal was submitted by Deputy Raúl Benítez, who had previously questioned Rivas’s status as a lawyer. The request was advanced after the courts sentenced him in the first instance to 8 years in prison for using a fake degree to serve on the Jury for the Prosecution of Magistrates.
According to Última Hora, the rationale holds that, since the falsity of the degree that gave rise to his registration has been judicially established, it is appropriate to seek the immediate, definitive and irrevocable cancellation of license No. 59,690, on the grounds of safeguarding the legal order, public trust and the practice of the profession.
The bill has two articles and, in its main point, urges the Supreme Court of Justice to move forward with the annulment of Hernán David Rivas Román’s professional license.
According to that outlet, the lower house had previously promoted a similar request before the Court, but since the highest court has still not ruled and there are now new elements following the sentence, it was decided to insist with a new appeal.
