The United Kingdom plans to replace four deployed fighter jets in the Falklands in 2027
London confirmed an aircraft rotation in the archipelago with a more modern version of the Typhoon. The decision was announced amid renewed diplomatic friction over sovereignty.
The British government said it will replace four Typhoon aircraft deployed in the Falkland Islands with four other units of a more advanced version, in a swap scheduled for late November or early December 2027.
According to the report, the aircraft currently assigned to the archipelago are from the Tranche 1 series, while those arriving will be Typhoon Tranche 2 aircraft from the existing fleet of the British Royal Air Force. According to Radio Mitre and La Nacion, the change includes improvements in radar and weaponry, although they are not newly built aircraft.
The confirmation was made by the Minister of State for Defence Readiness and Industry, Luke Pollard, in response to a question in Parliament, according to La Nacion. The official also said the replaced units will be withdrawn from service, according to that outlet.
