Congress permanently revoked Vito Quiles’ press accreditation

The Congress governing board agreed this Tuesday to permanently revoke Vito Quiles’ press accreditation, following the accumulation of sanctions and new files over conduct deemed very serious due to repetition.
According to La Vanguardia and EL PAÍS, the decision was based on the repetition of violations. As La Vanguardia detailed, Quiles had accumulated six files for serious offenses and three more for conduct classified as very serious because of that repetition.
The measure passed with the votes of PSOE and Sumar on the Congress governing board. Both La Vanguardia and ABC noted that the PP maintained its position of not taking part in these procedures.
The latest files reviewed referred to events that took place in March. According to La Vanguardia, they were linked to the obstruction of press conferences and the dissemination on social media of images obtained in violation of the Chamber’s rules. ABC specified that one of those episodes was an interruption of a press conference by Socialist spokesperson Patxi López on March 17, in addition to two recordings posted on social media on the 25th and 26th of that month.
La Vanguardia recalled that Quiles had already been sanctioned in May with a three-month suspension for a double serious violation, related to the recording and publication of images of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in premises where that type of recording is prohibited.
According to that outlet, the reporting lawyers defended the permanent withdrawal of the accreditation because of the seriousness of the facts and because they believed there had been a will to very seriously disrupt the normal functioning of the Chamber and the work of the rest of the accredited journalists.
ABC indicated that this is the first time the board has applied the maximum sanction provided for in the rules amended last year. La Vanguardia added that Quiles still has the opportunity to file objections within the procedure.
