Diego Irazábal asked the Partido Nacional to review the Pablo Leiva case
The Flores mayor said the political system is closely following the progress of the courts. He also said the Partido Nacional should examine the situation internally.
The mayor of Flores, Diego Irazábal, said that the case of Pablo Leiva should be analyzed within the Partido Nacional, after the courts on Friday convicted three people over the seizure of 265 kilos of drugs, weapons and cash in a house in Brazo Oriental.
Among those convicted is Leiva, who served as an adviser to the Montevideo councilor for the Partido Nacional, Gonzalo Gómez, according to Medios Públicos Uruguay.
According to that outlet, it also became known in parallel that the Police are investigating a collection agency in the name of the wife of the National Party leader Jorge Gandini, within the money-laundering scheme linked to Leiva.
In statements to La Escucha, Irazábal said that the political system is watching for the courts to move forward and said this is the time to speak out on the issue.
According to Medios Públicos Uruguay, the leader also said that, although the Partido Nacional has not yet issued a statement, the matter should be referred to some committee for detailed review. In that sense, he stressed that someone within the party has to take up the issue and analyze it.
