De La Espriella ordered the transfer of 120 prisoners from Buenaventura and announced aid for earthquake victims

President Abelardo De La Espriella announced in Buenaventura the transfer of 120 prisoners housed in the city’s prisons to other penitentiary facilities in the country, as part of his government’s security measures.
According to El Tiempo Colombia, the president said he made the decision after receiving notice of an ongoing operation in which one of the leaders of Los Chiquillos was captured. Following that operation, he said he instructed the director of the Inpec to move ahead with the transfers.
According to that outlet, the measure aims to take the inmates to prisons where they will not have access to communications. During his speech, De La Espriella said the detainees will be sent to prisons where they cannot continue, in his words, attacking the population.
El Tiempo Colombia also recalled that on September 5 the president had already ordered the transfer of 39 prisoners from prisons in Barranquilla to high-security facilities in other regions of the country.
During the same visit, the Government presented aid for people affected by the earthquake. According to El Tiempo Colombia, housing and financial assistance were delivered to those already listed as registered victims, with an investment of more than 4,062 million pesos intended for about 3,867 beneficiaries.
Added to that figure are more than 772 million pesos that, according to that outlet, will be distributed in other territories of Valle del Cauca with the participation of the Governor’s Office and private-sector actors.
The president also said that the first home delivered this Tuesday in Buenaventura is the start of a plan for another 235 houses in municipalities such as Argelia, El Águila and El Cairo, with support from the Valle del Cauca Governor’s Office.
As part of the day’s agenda, De La Espriella said that in the following hours the logistics support vessel ARC La Guajira was expected to arrive at the port, carrying humanitarian aid valued at 1.7 million dollars and collected in the United States, El Tiempo Colombia reported.
