The minister of Information and Communication Technologies of Paraguay, Gustavo Villate, said that digitalization must be understood as a factor that levels opportunities and not only as a tool to reduce gaps, during the opening of the 49th Meeting of the Permanent Consultative Committee I of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission, according to MITIC Paraguay.

According to the agency, the meeting is taking place from September 7 to 11 in Asunción, with delegations from the member countries of CITEL, a body of the Organization of American States, to exchange positions on the challenges and opportunities in telecommunications.

In his remarks, Villate said that innovation and technology have an increasingly greater weight at the global level and argued that progress will depend on the ability of states to properly understand and regulate markets, so that competition favors the expansion of benefits.

According to MITIC Paraguay, the minister also stressed that the well-being of citizens must guide digital transformation and pointed to cybersecurity as one of the greatest challenges on a global scale.

He also recalled the joint work with the OAS to update Paraguay’s National Cybersecurity Plan 2024-2025 and called on the representatives present to exchange experiences and proposals during the week, in the face of shared challenges and opportunities.

The opening of the event also included the participation of the vice minister of Technologies, Klaus Pistilli. According to the ministry, a MITIC team will take part in the different working groups scheduled.
