Survey by Equipos recorded majority support for transfers to low-income households
According to a survey published by La Diaria, 64% of respondents support the measure included in the Rendición de Cuentas and 20% reject it. The poll also showed higher levels of agreement in the lowest socioeconomic sectors.
A survey by Equipos Consultores on the new transfer system for low-income households with children and adolescents showed majority support for the initiative being debated in the Uruguayan Parliament. According to La Diaria, 15% of respondents said they strongly agreed and 49% agreed, while 16% expressed disagreement and 4% strongly disagreed.
In this way, total support for the measure reaches 64%, compared with 20% rejection. In addition, 14% took a neutral position and 2% did not answer or did not know how to respond.
According to the data published by La Diaria, support is higher among lower socioeconomic sectors and among people with lower levels of education. In the lowest socioeconomic level, 73% said they were in favor, 11% were neutral and 12% were against. By contrast, in the high and upper-middle levels, those figures were 58%, 25% and 16%, respectively.
The survey also broke down responses by political affinity. Among Frente Amplio voters, 77% supported the measure, 11% rejected it and 9% remained neutral. Among Partido Nacional voters, 57% were in agreement, 10% disagreed and 32% were neutral. Meanwhile, among those who voted for Álvaro Delgado in the last runoff, 52% expressed support, 15% rejection and 32% neutrality.
Among Partido Colorado voters, according to La Diaria, the picture appears more divided: 38% agreed, 36% took a neutral position and 26% disagreed.
The survey was conducted in person in households between August 11 and 31. Also according to the technical sheet released by La Diaria, the study covered people aged 18 and over living in localities with more than 2,000 inhabitants, with 710 cases in 176 sampling points, a maximum margin of error of ±3.7% and a confidence level of 95%.
