Rocío Vallejo questioned Pedro Alliana for calling deputies “princesos”
The PPQ lawmaker responded to the vice president’s remarks and said the treatment of the Chamber is inappropriate. She also downplayed the Colorado Party internal dispute and said it could be a distraction ahead of the municipal elections.
The deputy Rocío Vallejo, of the PPQ, pushed back against the statements by Vice President Pedro Alliana, who, according to ABC Color, referred to deputies as “princesos” amid tensions following a meeting with Horacio Cartes, president of the ANR.
Vallejo responded that Alliana also served in the Chamber of Deputies until the previous term before reaching the Vice Presidency. In that context, she also noted that among the current ruling-party lawmakers is Fabiana Souto, Alliana’s wife, whom she mentioned for having taken office from the substitute seat in replacement of the current director of Yacyretá, Luis Benítez.
According to ABC Color, the deputy said that more than feeling offended by the label, the remark exposes how the ruling party relates to its majority in Congress. In that line, she said this confirms that that sector acts under orders.
She also considered it inappropriate for a vice president, whom she defined as the constitutional link between the president and Congress, to refer in that way to one of the legislative chambers.
On the alleged dispute between Horacio Cartes and the executive binomial, Santiago Peña–Pedro Alliana, Vallejo said, according to ABC Color, that it is a “fight within the family” and that it could even end in a reconciliation. In her view, that conflict can serve as a distraction ahead of the municipal elections.
The lawmaker added that, in her view, the ruling party resorts to different strategies to divert public attention. In that context, she denounced threats and extortion against voters, including warnings to older adults about the possibility of losing Tekoporã if they do not vote for the ruling party, and questioned the lack of intervention by the Prosecutor’s Office.
