POLONIA Poland and Ukraine Denounce a Russian Escalation After Attacks Near the Border
Kyiv said one of the bombings hit a train bound for Warsaw a few kilometers from Poland. Moscow said it targeted railway infrastructure used to transport military cargo from Europe.
Poland and Ukraine denounced on Sunday a new escalation of Russian attacks near the Polish border, in a sensitive area because of its proximity to a NATO member state, according to AFP via Telemundo Uruguay.
According to Ukraine, one of the bombings hit a train bound for Warsaw and occurred two kilometers from the border with Poland. President Volodimir Zelenski said it was a deliberate attack.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiga said Russia is bringing the conflict to the doorstep of the European Union and NATO. Zelenski also noted that in this new wave, railway and energy infrastructure, as well as civilian buildings, were attacked, particularly in the west of the country.
Hours later, the Russian Ministry of Defense said its forces attacked railway infrastructure in western Ukraine used to move military cargo from European countries.
According to Ukraine’s state railway operator, shortly before the attack, senior Western officials were at a station in western Ukraine, including former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former CIA Director David Petraeus.
In that context, AFP also reported that U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Ukraine should stop attacking refineries in Russia and argued that there are other targets.
