Works Begin to Restore the Plaza de los Desaparecidos in Asunción

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications began this week the revitalization works at the Plaza de los Desaparecidos, in the Historic Center of Asunción, next to the Government Palace, according to La Nación Paraguay.

According to that outlet, the works are part of the Urban Resilience Project, within the Historic Center of Asunción Subproject in its first phase, and come after a socialization process in which public institutions, civil organizations, neighbors and citizens took part.

During those meetings, intervention proposals were presented and adjustments were incorporated based on observations, consultations and suggestions from participants, La Nación Paraguay reported.

Minister Claudia Centurión said the intention is to restore the plaza as a more accessible, inclusive place prepared to function again as a meeting space, while preserving its identity, its history and its value for collective memory.

According to the report, the intervention aims to comprehensively improve the space and its conditions of use, while maintaining its characteristics and its significance within the historic center. It was also reported that during the work there will be security and signage measures, so the public was asked to respect the designated areas and the instructions posted at the site.

The work is being carried out by Consorcio Palma and is part of the recovery of public spaces in the capital.
