University wage talks fail, and unions move ahead with strikes and a new federal mobilization

The salary negotiations for the national universities once again ended without an agreement. At the meeting convened by the Secretariat of Education at the Palacio Pizzurno, teachers’ and non-teaching unions unanimously rejected the official proposal to grant a 3% increase in September and another 3% in October, the same offer that had already been put forward earlier.

Infobae added that at the UBA an additional staggered 23-day strike was announced, with visibility activities in different departments. That outlet also quoted ADUBA general secretary Emiliano Cagnacci and FEDUN head Daniel Ricci, who called for compliance with the University Financing Law.
The conflict also intersects with the budget debate. BAE Negocios indicated that the 2027 budget bill allocates $7,349,082 million for universities, while the Consejo Interuniversitario Nacional estimated a need for $11,005,000 million to sustain salaries, scholarships, science, university hospitals and the system’s operations.

In that context, BAE Negocios noted that university authorities and governors have begun assessing a warning about the risk to the start of the 2027 school year if the lack of resources and the deterioration in wages continue.
