Mitic ordered the new wiretapping equipment purchased by Senad to be moved to the Ministry of the Interior

In July, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies ordered that the communications interception equipment acquired by the National Anti-Drug Secretariat be moved and installed in offices of the Ministry of the Interior, according to ABC Color.

According to that outlet, the decision was communicated in a letter from Minister Gustavo Villate to Senad head Jalil Rachid. The official proposal was to centralize the new platform and make it operate in an integrated way with the Center for Research against Criminal Activities.

Also according to ABC Color, Mitic justified the measure by citing the wear and tear on the system currently used at the Ministry of the Interior. An annex noted that the CIAC hardware has more than 10 years of operation and does not have licenses to intercept 4G or VoLTE networks, while the equipment incorporated by Senad can operate on 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G and data services.

The same document also indicated, according to ABC Color, that mobile phone companies warned about the complexity of maintaining multiple intermediary systems on their networks, so it was recommended to concentrate mediation in a single platform located at the Ministry of the Interior, where physical interconnections with the operators already exist.

ABC Color recalled that the purchase was completed a little more than a year ago through a tender carried out by the Itaipú Technological Park Foundation. The outlet added that during that process, Congressman Mauricio Espínola estimated an investment of close to US$ 12 million and that other bidders questioned the tender, considering it was geared toward Corsight brand equipment, represented in Paraguay by itti Saeca.
