The Uruguayan government announced an extra allocation for Udelar works in Salto

Yamandú Orsi informed university authorities that the University of the Republic will receive an additional 40 million pesos to expand its infrastructure in the city. According to Caras y Caretas Uruguay, the funds come from the Salto Grande joint technical commission.

Uruguay’s president, Yamandú Orsi, met this Tuesday with the rector of the University of the Republic, Héctor Cancela, and confirmed an additional investment of 40 million pesos to address the institution’s building growth needs in Salto, according to Caras y Caretas Uruguay.

According to Cancela, in that city Udelar has more than 7,000 students and adds close to 1,000 each year, an increase that created a concrete demand for expanded facilities. The rector said that contribution will make it possible to move forward with a project he considered necessary.

Also according to Caras y Caretas Uruguay, the allocation comes from the Salto Grande joint technical commission. Cancela interpreted the decision as a sign of agreement on the priority of developing the country’s interior.

The director of Cenur Litoral Norte, Mauricio Cabrera, welcomed the announcement and said the university had been working on this issue for some time. He also indicated that Udelar already had 80% of the building’s funding and that these resources were what was missing to complete the project.
