Construction Begins on the New National Hospital of Itauguá

Paraguay’s Vice President, Pedro Alliana, highlighted this Friday the start of construction of the new National Hospital of Itauguá, a project that, according to La Nación Paraguay based on information from the Ministry of Public Health, has already begun with the execution of piles, pile caps and site preparation work.
According to the health ministry, the project is financed by Itaipú Binacional and includes more than 72,000 square meters of hospital infrastructure, more than 1,000 beds, 30 operating rooms and 70 consultation rooms. Alliana also said the investment is around G. 699,000 million and that the planned execution period is 24 months.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, demolition of the old shelter located on the site is also advancing in parallel, after its services were moved to a new space for patients and family members. It also indicated that, once those preliminary tasks are completed, clearing of the area and earthmoving will continue, while the worksite has already been installed and is in the process of being equipped, including a concrete plant.
La Nación Paraguay added that the future hospital will have emergency and outpatient care services, as well as specialized areas for diagnostic imaging, chemotherapy, a blood bank and an obstetric center, among other high-complexity services.
The project also incorporates technological solutions for the operation of the facility, including a pneumatic transport system for supplies and samples, an integrated medical IT system, a wastewater treatment plant, hospital-use elevators and a helipad for emergencies.
According to the publication, the initiative also includes a new hospital management model with technical support from Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein of Brazil, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health and Itaipú Binacional.
