Senator Antonio Barrios confirmed, in statements collected by La Nacif3n Paraguay, that Horacio Cartes and Pedro Alliana will meet this Wednesday at noon at the residence of the president of the Partido Colorado.

According to that outlet, the meeting comes as the vice-presidential candidacy that will accompany Alliana on the presidential ticket for the 2028 national elections is being discussed.

According to La Nacif3n Paraguay, Cartes expressed yesterday his preference for current minister Juan Carlos Baruja. Alliana, meanwhile, reiterated that he will make an official announcement only after the municipal elections on October 4.

Barrios said that Cartes “always said that Baruja was going to be the chosen one,” although he stressed that Alliana decided to focus first on the municipal process before formalizing his running mate for the national elections.

The lawmaker also stated, according to La Nacif3n Paraguay, that the vice president’s position does not alter the ruling movement’s definition and that Alliana remains the presidential candidate. He also rejected the idea that there is a split in Honor Colorado and said that, although there are differences in position, the same line is later maintained.
