Beatriz Biedma Asked to Join as a Prosecuting Party in the Case Involving Leire Díez and Reported Contacts to Act Against Her

The Badajoz judge Beatriz Biedma, who handled the case that ended with a nine-year ban from public office for David Sánchez, asked to be recognized as an injured party and to act as a private prosecutor in the investigation opened at the National Court into the alleged scheme attributed to Leire Díez.
According to reports by La Vanguardia and EL PAÍS, the magistrate filed a brief before Investigative Court 5 of the National Court, headed by Santiago Pedraz, in which she argues that there are indications of actions aimed at obtaining information about her, discrediting her and promoting actions against her because of her role in the case against the prime minister’s brother.
In that filing, Biedma said there were contacts promoted by the group under investigation with people linked to a clan based in Badajoz and connected to drug trafficking, with the aim of acting against her. According to EL PAÍS, the judge warned that this situation could have put at risk not only her reputation, but even her physical integrity.

In her filing, she said the facts caused her personal, professional and institutional harm.
Among the possible offenses, Biedma mentioned obstruction of justice, offenses against moral integrity, threats and or coercion, discovery and disclosure of secrets, false accusation or complaint, and criminal organization or criminal group.
In the case, the investigated parties include, in addition to Leire Díez, former Socialist leaders Santos Cerdán and Gaspar Zarrías, and the PSOE manager, Ana María Fuentes, among others, according to La Vanguardia.
