Basilio Núñez downplayed the internal dispute in Honor Colorado and called for focusing on the municipal elections
The president of Congress said the differences within the movement do not amount to a rupture and considered them part of party dynamics. He also said the decision on the vice-presidential candidacy should be left until after the municipal elections in October.
The president of Congress, Basilio Bachi Núñez, downplayed the significance of the differences that emerged in Honor Colorado over the definition of Pedro Alliana‘s future ticket for 2028 and said those discussions show vitality within the movement, according to Última Hora.
According to that outlet, Núñez said the public expression of preferences by party leaders, lawmakers, governors and the party chairman himself is part of the internal life of a broad political force. In that context, he said he did not know what Alliana’s position would be regarding the possibility that Marco Riquelme join the ticket, but defended the right of the different sectors to speak out.
Still according to Última Hora, he also backed the dispute taking place openly and stressed that that dynamic sets the Partido Colorado apart. At the same time, he warned that those differences should not lead to personal departures.
Núñez also said the movement should now focus on the municipal elections on October 4 and respect the internal understanding so that, once that date has passed, Alliana will be the one to decide the name of his vice-presidential running mate.
The leader also denied that there is a split among the main figures of the cartismo. According to Última Hora, he said dialogue with Alliana, Horacio Cartes and other leaders continues, although he avoided giving details about the meeting scheduled between the presidential candidate and the former president.
