Colorado Senator Basilio Núñez announced that he will seek to promote the review and approval of the civil service career bill, according to HOY Paraguay.

According to that outlet, the lawmaker defended the initiative by saying it would allow citizens to access public service through competitive examinations, with criteria of qualifications and meritocracy. He also explained that the scheme provides for an initial entry as a contractor and the possibility of later developing a career within the public sector.

Núñez also said he will speak with other senators in an effort to have the proposal considered in an extraordinary session, despite the parliamentary recess of the Legislative Branch.

Still according to HOY Paraguay, the senator stressed that it is also necessary to improve the competitive examination mechanisms to prevent cases of nepotism in public service. In that context, he said the law would be important to avoid an oversized state.
